I would like to be part of the Cherokees but they do not want me to be a part of them.I talked to them as of matter of fact, a lot in my life time.They tend to shun you if you are an outsider.They are very clannish because you do not live with them.I have lived in the Smokies and mountain white people are the same way. They will not even look at you when they talk to you like you don't exist.They will not help you unless you have lived there all of your life. It hurts me.I am human, too My grandmother was the same way if she did not know you. I do understand them because of how the white people have done them.They like people, but also are very private and they need a lot of space to themselves.I am that way. And there has been so many people claim Indian ancestry, who are not.They don't know who is telling the truth and who is telling a lie . I want to be a part of them and I am Indian by blood and Indian in my ways of thinking and I have never thought like a white person.I always thought something was wrong with me.Why didn't I think like most white people . I was at a PowWow in Sept.2011 at McIntosh Park in Whitesburg Ga. {named after Creek Chief McIntosh who lived there.}The Lakotas were there.I talked with one of them and he told me that the Cherokees had lost a lot of their customs and traditions and that they asked the Lakotas for help with it.That made me sad. I really want to help the Indian people even if it is not the Cherokees. Jennifer

I've always said, it only takes one person to plant the seed of change. I've received a lot of flak from that statement, from those who tend to be of a political mind set. Everyday I talk to people at my job.I am a herbalist.I help people with their health, with their physical ,spiritual ,mental needs.I help them the best way I know how.I asked God for that job so I could help people.He gave me that job and gives me the knowledge and the understanding to know what is wrong with them.It is very rewarding to help people.I feel like I am doing my part in my community also I speak up on issues of the injustices that are going on in this crazy world.I love this job so much I wouldn't care if I didn't get paid except I have to pay bills. this is why i tell many that ndn's themselves participate in the genocide against thier own people. we must stop this immediately by helping our own families...our own communities.

it is sad because many euro americans and europeans think that if they "help" us, then we will be stronger. it was a mixture of ndn's accepting european ways and the acts of the europeans that have created our problems. simple as that .... now is the time to withdraw within our own communities and learn our languages, our culture, and our traditions. as ndn people, we must start to with hold our ways until we become seperate nations again...not euro - ndn's.

it is easier to take small steps to achive a goal then to run headlong towards the finish line without seeing where you need to go. we can all sit and whine about this problem, but until we accept the fact that pan indianism and "being one nation" does not work, we will continue on our own path of destruction.

Craig I am Lakota but could no more return to Pine Ridge and fit in as I did 30+ years ago. I am still Lakota and honor my people and my blood everyday. Someday I may return but I can never go back to being what I was as a child and understand fully what my relatives have lived, just as they can't understand fully the path my life took. Great wrongs have been done to all of us and continue to be done. There is more than enough pain to share on both sides of this coin. ndn is correct in that the First Nations contribute to our own genocide whether it be Urban NdN rejecting Reservation NdN or Full blood rejecting mixed blood. It has been my experience that if you be who you are and honor the blood and anscestors that acceptance is really not that hard trust is something that was once given freely but now must be earned. What we do not need to solve these problems and bring healing are more Europeans contributing to the division with their enlightenment.

Craig, first to answer you question about my teeth. I spent nearly 1/3 or my life putting posions into my body for what I thought was fun. These posions sucked the vitimans and minerals out of my body and I have had thousands of dollars of reconstructive repairs. Unfortunally, I have very few natural teeth left. Some hard lesons I had to learn.

Shortly after the Iroquois began trading for firearms from the dutch, french and english, they drove the Shawnee out of the Ohio Valley homelands. The many villages of the Shawnee became wide spread. Some living near the Catawaba, some in north western Tennesee, and some in Alabama. and even the big bend area of north west florida and some in Deleware, some in virginia . the swanee river in florida is named after the Shawnee nation and some in Deleware, some in virginia. After the whites began settling in the ohio valley lands, the other Aglonquin nations, Wee, Kickapoo, Miami, and Winneabago offered the Shawnee nation the ohio valley lands west of the River, so the Shawnee would be a buffer between themselves and the whites.

I was just wondering why people have a hard time believing that the First Nations aboe the Rio Grande were incapable of building great civilizations. There are many examples of great societies all over this land. From Cahokia, to the Black Warrior comples, Poverty Point, the 3 great cultures of the Ohio River Valley, and The Hohokam. The Calause, Poverty Point cultures had large thriving populations without farming.

I have been learning a great deal about Cahokia and the IL. Nations of that time. Although how accurate the puzzle is being put together is questionable. Two things stand out #1. Cahokia was a very large civilization #2 The trade through the Ohio valley and up and down the Mississippi and MO. Rivers was well established. Not a bad feat for primitives that could not escape the stone age according to the grave robbers. I found a journal a while back that was put online that described how one American settlement was founded in Central IL. that talked of the French and a Small settlement of Miami coexisting side by side and how both the french and Miami were slaughtered by the Catholics that wanted to settle the area. Now I have to dig through all of my links to find that one it was a very graphic read.
I wonder if news of events like this had been able to reach the western and southwest Nations and a understanding of how brutal and decietful the invaders were, if the great chiefs of those days could have been better informed and mounted a better resistance knowing they were being promised vapor and nothing more.... Something we will never know.
I find it disturbing that so called scientist look not for facts but for facts that fit their theory and exclude any evidence that does not support the conclusion they want to reach. So much has been lost both in oral history and in the written history that even with artifacts in hand ot is all speculation as large portions of our indiginous history has been lost for all time.
