Dear Friends,

With the swiftness of the Northern Plains, a frost arrived last week and provided a swift end to the growing season for the garden. In the end, we were able to jar three dozen quarts of salsa & tomatos, along with drying many bags of summer squash, roma tomatos, crookneck squash and green peppers. Many thanks to Rick for bringing the dehydrator by!

This week we were as well able to complete our first ever Solar Workshop at the T.R.E.A.T.Y. School! Brian from DIY Energy arrived and instructed for a solid session, teaching us about the end-to-end process of constucting a solar panel from scratch. We learned about the differences between AC & DC power, how to solder solar panels together, how to cut a 45 degree on aluminum and the difference between a good and a bad rivet! Many thanks to Brian for his patience and knowledge!

Our first completed solar panel, pictured above, will be used at the T.R.E.A.T.Y. School to provide DC power to the structure while we install the full electrical system, and then afterwards as supplemental power which we will build upon as we work to become fully self-sufficient for energy. Thanks as well to Ladonna & the girls, Harrison & the boys, the kids from Wounded Knee, Ika & Damien and Janey & Nick for making it a fantastic workshop!
